BildungsCent e.V., founded in 2003, is a German non-governmental organisation (NGO) working in the educational sector. We aim to enhance the teaching and learning culture by fostering new educational approaches including education for sustainable development. Our action-oriented programmes promote students engagement and the implementation of important issues such as climate change, sustainable development, participation and leadership.
We have worked with more than 4.400 schools throughout Germany and realised innovative educational projects in cooperation with the German government as well as with other civil society organisations. Located in Berlin, we are currently running seven different programmes.
We provide schools with multifaceted stimuli, forward-setting programmes and the linking-up with extracurricular partners. We allow for good and effective practical experience and pique interest in a new culture of teaching and learning.
1. All sectors of society – civil society, politics, economy, science, culture – are responsible for education.
2. We are tasked with preparing young people for the challenges of a rapidly changing world and to empower them to cope with uncertainties, unpredictable developments, and to stay confident.
3. Young people should participate in finding solutions for challenges such as global warming, digitalisation, globalisation, and increasing social inequality. Therefore education has to ensure that everyone acquires the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary to shape a sustainable development.
4. Young people are unbiased and free from self-interest, therefore they have much more access to unexpected solutions. These valuable potentials must be taken into account.
5. Young people’s self-initiative needs to be strengthened. By experiencing a sense of achievement they develop confidence in their own abilities.
6. Experiences of self-efficacy empower young people to counter a feeling of helplessness in the face of the challenges of today’s world.
7. It’s our duty to strengthen young people’s individual possibilities so they can grow to be competent, confident and courageous members of a democratic society.
8. School is more than just lessons. It’s a living environment and space for young people to develop their own personalities.
9. Schools have a central role in providing justice and equal opportunities for all young people. Only then will they be able to successfully shape their future and to participate as active members of society.
10. Participation of various partners from different sectors of society is crucial for a sustainable and future-orientated education.
